We believe that venture firms should bring more to the table than just capital. Our partners have real entrepreneurial experience, having worked in the Midwest entrepreneurial environment since the mid 1990s. Prior to coming together to form Serra Ventures, Tim, Dennis and Rob traveled similar roads having each began careers working for top tier professional services organizations including RSM, Price Waterhouse Coopers, Deloitte, and McKinsey & Company. From there, the three of us each became entrepreneurs. Dennis built and sold a successful home healthcare business; Rob founded DigitalWork, a Chicago software firm, and grew it from 0 to 140 employees; and Tim was the co-founder and CEO of iCyt Mission Technology, a bio-instrument company, which sold to Sony in 2009. These experiences along with our Midwest work ethic, serve as the basis for how we work with and mentor our entrepreneurs. As partners, we know what it’s like to come close to missing payroll, to experience slippage in the sales pipeline and to encounter ruthless competition in the marketplace. We know what it’s like to be in the chair of the CEOs that we fund. Simply put, we believe that the best coaches were once players.
